AMBON, KOMPAS.com - Garuda Indonesia planned to open the Ambon-Surabaya line in June 2011. Ambon General Manager of Garuda Indonesia Hendra Sumarno said here Tuesday the opening of the new route had been decided in a meeting with the South Sulawesi management recently.

The result of a market survey showed a big interest in flights on the route. Garuda plans to use 100 seating capacity Boeing planes on the 1.20 hours flight which would start from Ambon at 5.50 pm.

Hendra believed that the flight to Surabaya will also contribute to plans of further trips to Denpasar (Bali), Jakarta and Australia. "We will give the best of our services to the passengers following the flight to Ambon starting on June 3, 2010," he said.

Speaking of the number of Ambon-Jakarta passengers with a transit in Makassar after the change in departure schedule from afternoon to morning, he said had increased. Garuda Indonesia also took part in holding "Sail Banda 2010" from July 24 to August 17, 2010, as the main provider of flights during the international marine event.
