KUALA LUMPUR, KOMPAS.com - AirAsia Bhd, Southeast Asia's largest budget airline by fleet size, said Monday it carried 1.52 million passengers in June compared with 1.37 million a year earlier.
The carrier's June load factor improved by two percentage points to 83%, AirAsia said in a statement. Revenue passenger kilometres, a measure of the volume of passengers carried by the airline, rose 17% to 1,764 million kilometers.
The airline had a fleet of 53 aircraft as of end-June, up from 50 planes a year earlier. For the second quarter, the airline said it carried 4.47 million passengers, up from 3.89 million.
Its load factor for the quarter ended June 30 rose four percentage points to 81%. AirAsia said its Thai and Indonesian associates also carried more passengers during the month of June.
Thai AirAsia carried 33% more passengers for the month while its load factor was steady at 74%. Indonesia AirAsia carried 40% more passengers and its load factor rose one percentage point to 79%.
